What would Monforte be like without Vitòria? More or less the same as Turin without la Mole. Yes, because Vittorina Seghesio is a real and proper institution in the town, where everyone is fond of her, so much that last Tuesday, on the occasion of her birthday, more than fifty people, among relatives and friends gathered around her at a lunch at the Trattoria della Posta. A special party, seeing that Vittorina has brilliantly reached 100 years of age: nearly a joke for her, as she was born on the first of April in Monforte…

The name, Vitòrìa, came about with the restaurant, the Grappolo d'oro, started up together with her husband, Pietro Rinaldi in 1955 and carried on by their son Bruno with his wife Ivana and by their grandchildren, Alberto and Pierpaolo. She has passed half of her life at the stove. After initial difficulties and great sacrifices to get the activity started (it was after the war and the Langa was still of the “won” of Nuto Revelli), things started to go well. Her culinary intuitions regarding TRADITION, joined with a legendary courage and indestructible trust in the Providence, did the rest.

Her formidable knowhow has made , Vitòria a reference point for many passing tourists in Monforte, whether they are German, Italian or Swiss. <Treating guests well – she said a few years ago – means chatting to them and making them feel part of the family>. She, communicates with them in Piemontese but has never had a problem making herself understood.
